We are constantly being reminded of how important security is within the digital currency space. The word "hacked" is becoming way too common and it's easily one of the scariest words in our society. Just hearing it (or even reading it) is enough to send shivers down your spine and keep you awake at night.
With just a single breach to a server a good hacker can take down even the best companies as they steal everything they can find and then vanish without a trace. We continue to see this playing out over and over again today, especially in this industry, and it seems the bigger a company becomes the more hackers they attract.
BitClub Network knows this all too well. We have spent two years building our system, rebuilding our system, and then rebuilding our system again just to stay ahead of these hackers. We are constantly dealing with DDOS attacks, layer 7 attacks and very sophisticated methods that go way beyond what we initially planned for.
These hackers are getting smarter and they are constantly trying to expose holes in even the tightest security. Bottom line. Hacking is very real, and it's getting worse!
This week we saw one of the largest hacks to date in the Bitcoin space, it happened on a top exchange known as Bitfinex. The exchange was hacked for around 120,000 Bitcoin, which today is valued near $70 million.
This hack has gained worldwide news coverage and you have probably already heard about it, but anytime something like this happens it's bad for the entire industry. We hope none of our members lost any funds in this hack, and if you did then we hope the process to return them is fair and happens quickly.
Luckily, BitClub does not use Bitfinex so nothing was lost on our end and all our Bitcoin is safe. But even though we did not lose anything directly we can feel the impact of this and at the very least it serves as a good reminder of how important security is in this new digital age.
What can you do to protect yourself?
First, Always, Always, Always use 2 factor security for your wallets when it's available. This can be Google Authenticator, SMS, Authy or whatever is being provided by your wallet provider. For us we currently have Google Auth available and you can set it up easily under My Profile. (do this if you have not already done so)
*Soon we will be adding SMS verify along with a new PIN protocol that will be available through our mobile apps but for right now make sure you have Google Auth enabled.
Setting up 2 factor will eliminate 95% of all hack attempts because even if you are hacked, the hacker would need to have this secondary code or direct access to your secondary device in order to get in.
Second. If you are seeing a red alert message asking you to change your password at the top of this page, please change your password! We have upgraded our security and our storing methods for passwords but this only works AFTER you sign up. So even if you just set up your account right now and you see this message, go and update it!
Third. Verify your email and make sure you have a strong password
Fourth. When you are not in front of your computer or accessing your account make sure you log out and close everything!
Fifth. When requesting withdrawals from your BitClub wallet to your external wallet, try and use the same IP address, use the same BTC, ETH or ClubCoin addresses each time make a request and do not switch them out too often.
The reason is we are constantly building a trust score based on the consistency of your account actions and the more consistent you are the more trusted your transactions become.
More importantly if all of the sudden we see a new IP address on your account with a change of your BTC withdrawal address and then a withdrawal request to this new address, our system will flag the transaction and we will have a chance to stop it.
However, if you are always changing your withdrawal addresses or logging into the account from different IP addresses then our system will assume this is your normal behavior and catching a bad request will probably not happen.
We have seen way too many members lose their Bitcoin because their accounts were too easy to get into and we will continue to do everything we can to help protect you, but ultimately it's up to you to secure your own account and if you follow the five tips above you will be less likely to have an issue!
One last tip to consider. In most cases hack attempts are going to be from someone with access to you, your life, your computer and your information. This could be from a shared computer, or a service provider you are using, or whatever it may be. So you should always protect yourself and assume that hackers are watching you. If you behave like this and you protect your Bitcoin then you don't have anything to worry about.

We do not store any Bitcoin online, its all safe offline and we take extreme measures with strict protocols to bring it online each day to pay commissions. So even if the website does get hacked all Bitcoin, Ethereum, and ClubCoin will remain safe!
Another method we utilize and recommend, especially if you are holding large amounts of Bitcoin, is to spread it out across multiple locations. It's much better to have many small vaults than to store everything in one mega vault.
If you do keep Bitcoin online never keep too much in a single account. (The one exception we have is our mining wallet address to show proof of where blocks are being mined, but we do not recommend doing this)

We are constantly improving our security protocols and we have a dedicated security team working 24/7 keeping us on our toes. We are very proactive in our approach to this and we have been upgrading our security for almost 2 years now as we deal with daily threats and find ways to mitigate them.
The one drawback to our "Security First" protocol is slower than expected developments for new features. We cannot simply develop something and when it's working make it live. There are extreme security tests now and a lot of time is spent restructuring other pieces that end up being "weak links" once we have newer upgrades.
For instance, the most recent attack point has been through our replicated websites. (bitclub.network, bitclub.bz websites). Hackers are flooding our system with constant API calls pushing data into our database and crashing the server. When it's down they are probing it hard for any weaknesses.
They are very clever and it's hard to tell the good traffic from the bad traffic so our method of banning IP addresses is causing good leads to be blocked or rejected. This has been going on for a few weeks now so we decided to re-write this entire script and lead platform to bring it under a much more secure umbrella and stop this from taking down our main site.
The worst part is our lead capture process and replicated websites work perfectly! But not when they are being attacked all day long, so this is the constant battle we are fighting with these hackers who will then move on to the next weakness once we patch this one.
To be clear. at no point are we in any danger of being breached from these type of attacks, they are just annoying to deal with and it slows everything down as we work to improve it. (they really do keep us on our toes)
Anyway, be safe out there. Protect your account and not just here on BitClub Network but anywhere you are dealing in the crypto space. Trust nobody, protect your private keys and always opt for the top security options available. You will give up a bit of convenience doing this but it's worth it to keep your Bitcoins safe!
